Packaging problems show up late
A store receives a carton of beautiful chiffon hijabs, each one deeply creased from a tight fold, with no size or color on the bag. Staff spend a day steaming and relabeling before anything goes on sale. Another buyer's printed gift boxes arrive at the workshop a week after bulk is finished, and the order sits waiting. Packaging is rarely the first thing buyers think about, and it is often the last thing that delays a program.
The options below run from the simplest wholesale pack to full gift sets. Most programs combine two or three.
The main options
| Option | Typical use | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Bulk pack (folded, bundled) | Stores that repack or display loose | Lowest handling; little protection from creasing |
| Individual polybag | Wholesale and online fulfillment | Protects from dust and soiling; add a sticker with style, color and size |
| Polybag with hang tag or insert card | Private label retail and online | Carries brand, styling tips or care; tag attachment must not damage fabric |
| Printed sleeve or belly band | Retail shelves | Brand presence with modest extra lead time |
| Individual box | Premium lines, satin and silk, bridal | Protects folds; adds lead time and carton volume |
| Gift set box | Eid and gift ranges, corporate gifting | Multiple items; packing is assembly work |
Folding is a decision
How a hijab is folded affects creasing, display and carton count. Light wovens like chiffon and voile crease readily; a looser fold or tissue between layers helps. Jersey recovers better but can stretch out of shape if folded tightly when warm from pressing. Satin shows fold lines clearly. Printed squares are often folded so a motif shows through the bag window. Write the fold on the spec sheet, with a photo of the approved folded sample, and the folded size if it must fit a box or a shelf.
Polybags
A polybag protects against dust, moisture and soiling in transit and storage. Decide whether the bag is self-seal or heat-sealed, the size relative to the folded piece, and whether it carries printing or a sticker. For online fulfillment, a sticker or printed area with your style code, color name, size and barcode saves a great deal of time in your warehouse. Many markets now have rules or retailer requirements about plastic packaging, recycled content or suffocation warnings on bags; requirements vary by country and change, so confirm with your own adviser and write the outcome on the spec sheet.
Hang tags, inserts and labels
Hang tags and insert cards carry brand, styling suggestions, care instructions or a story about the range. On a hijab, think about attachment: a plastic tag fastener can leave a hole in fine chiffon or silk, so many buyers prefer a tag threaded through a care label or an insert card in the bag. Hang tags and inserts are in addition to required labels, not instead of them. Required label content for the United States, such as fiber content, country of origin and identity, belongs on the permanent label; check the compliance overview. See private label for label types.
Boxes and gift sets
Boxes suit premium fabrics and gift ranges. Gift sets typically pair a hijab with an underscarf, pins, a magnet set or a prayer garment, presented in a printed box. They need extra planning:
- Fix the contents. List every item, its color and size, and how many sets.
- Design the box around the folded items. Ask for the folded sizes before box artwork is final.
- Sample the box. A blank or printed box sample, packed with real items, shows fit and presentation.
- Schedule box printing. Printed boxes have their own lead time and must reach the workshop before packing starts.
- Check safety items. Magnets should carry warnings and not be marketed to children; pins need safe packing.
- Write packing instructions. Order of items, tissue, inserts, closure and outer bag.

Cartons and carton marks
Outer cartons protect goods in transit and decide how efficiently they ship. Write the units per inner pack, units per carton, whether cartons are single color and size or mixed, and the carton marks: your PO number, style, color, quantity, carton number, and origin. Your logistics provider or customs broker may need specific marks; ask them before packing. Single color and size per carton makes receiving faster; mixed cartons suit small store deliveries. Heavier cartons ship more efficiently but must be safe to handle.
Lead times and cost drivers
Plain polybags and stickers add little time. Printed hang tags, sleeves and inserts add some. Printed rigid boxes add the most and should be ordered as soon as the folded sizes are confirmed. In the weeks before Ramadan and Eid, printers in the cluster are busy too, so packaging deadlines move earlier. Packaging also affects carton volume and therefore freight; a boxed hijab takes far more space than a bagged one. Prices are quoted per program, from the spec sheet.
Packing for online fulfillment versus stores
Online sellers and stores need different things from the same hijab. An online warehouse wants every unit bagged, labeled with a scannable code and packed in single-style cartons, so pickers can find and ship one piece quickly. A boutique or mosque shop often prefers fewer layers of plastic, a neat fold that displays well, and mixed cartons that match a small shelf assortment. If you sell through both channels, decide whether one pack format can serve both or whether you need two packing variants, each with its own code on the spec sheet. Two variants are easy to run when planned and slow to create after bulk is packed.
What to put in writing
- Fold method and folded size, with a photo of the approved sample.
- Bag type, size, closure, printing or sticker content.
- Hang tag, insert and barcode content, position and attachment method.
- Box and gift set contents, box specification and artwork version.
- Units per inner and per carton, carton marks and carton size limits.
- Deadlines for packaging materials to reach the workshop.
